Learning outcomes

The student recognizes the different theoretical and practice based methodologies involved in RtD processes.

The student demonstrates different observational skills and classifies relevant abstract and physical qualities and issues from technical, environmental and social arenas.

The student is able to conceptualise and visualise the essence of researched phenomena by formulating an annotated portfolio of alternative and improved prototypes

The student evaluates research outcomes.

The student reflects systematically on the learning moments, the process followed and the decision-making process.

Content

In this minor students learn about the theory and practice of exploring alternative desired futures for a “lost space” and the value of collecting and reflecting upon the outcomes of this process.

In the first part of RtD students develop individual cognitive insights to the subject area through lectures, the analysis of case studies and self-reflection.

In the second part, students apply what they have learnt by working in teams to develop project ideas in collaboration with a variety of stakeholder groups. Students generate visually illustrative proposals and present them to different audiences both inside and outside of the classroom.

During the entire process they individually collect and reflect upon the value of theory, methodologies, project specific knowledge, analytical insights and conceptual ideas within an annotated portfolio. Evaluation of the quality and completeness of the portfolio will be the primary form of assessment for this unit.
