To identify and improve the sustainability of commodities, products and chains, certain insights are needed on issues such as: What do food systems look like (global and regional)? What initiatives can you use to make the chain more sustainable? What is the impact of sustainability on the organization and the environment?
The Food Chain Sustainability Module focuses on the sustainability and innovation of food systems and their impact, and focuses on the first part of the food chain, starting from agriculture and other commodities. This module particularly addresses the first part of the food chain.
The module consists of an Integrated Assignment and three supporting units of study: Sustainability and Business, Regional and Global Food Systems and Commodities and Adaptation.
The integral assignment involves working with a client from the field to map their food system. Where can sustainability take place and what is the impact of this change including assessing this impact. A professional product is delivered in the form of an advisory report.
The three supporting units of study all contribute to the theme of this module and support the integrated assignment. Throughout the module, work is done to develop research and professional skills in addition to gaining new insights and in-depth knowledge of the food chain and food systems.
The Sustainability and Business unit of study contributes to the module by defining, exploring, studying and applying with you the components of sustainable business models and business cases in the analysis of business models of existing organizations and the creation and analysis of business cases focused on sustainability.
For sustainable and healthy food, it is important that food systems become (more) sustainable. In order to be able to examine a food system at a company for sustainability, it is important to be able to identify the different components of the food system in question and systematically make them more sustainable. The global nature of food systems is also addressed in this process. In the study component Regional and Global Food Systems, you will learn about and analyze regional and global food systems in various ways. The sustainability of food systems will be examined through various analyses.
The study component Commodities and Adaptation contributes to the integrated assignment in several ways. The focus of this unit of study is on the beginning of the food chain: raw materials. Knowledge about sustainability of a crucial link in the food system, the land row is addressed in this study component.
