Learning outcomes

Area of Expertise and Learning Outcome(s)

2. Working on Health – Level 1

LOL 2.1 – WAG – N1 – Authentic (VLPs & DT)

The student, partly under supervision, carries out a behavioural analysis in a moderately complex authentic situation based on clinical reasoning and provided models of prevention, and designs and implements preventive interventions to promote healthy behaviour in the individual service user.

LOL 2.2 – WAG – N1 – Authentic (VLPs & DT)

The student, partly under supervision, carries out environmental analyses in a moderately complex authentic context for a specific target group, and designs and implements preventive interventions. In doing so, the student plays a supporting role within the interprofessional collaboration in order to promote a healthy living environment.

Indicators
Description

2.1 Uses motivational interviewing techniques to respond to the wishes and needs of the individual care recipient (BN2030).

2.2 Analyses, during a conversation, the intended and unintended outcomes and consequences of their own communication when using motivational interviewing techniques (BN2030).

2.3 Carries out a health analysis in a methodical manner, tailored to a moderately complex context (BN2030).

2.4 Supports the individual care recipient in the design and implementation of preventive interventions (BN2030).

2.5 Carries out an environmental analysis at target group level using a provided model and draws up a prevention plan (BN2030).

2.6 Identifies and monitors health risks within a specific target group (BN2030).

2.7 Assumes a supporting role in promoting a healthy living environment within an interdisciplinary team (BN2030).

Content

This course strengthens the nursing role in prevention and health promotion. The focus is on positive health, early detection, self-management, the use of interprofessional interventions and eHealth in healthcare. Students will learn, through various methods, how to promote health in a systematic way and how to carry out a neighbourhood and environmental analysis. Students will learn how to analyse risky behaviour and self-management in a care recipient and their loved ones, and how to influence these factors. This will be incorporated, substantiated and justified in an individual prevention plan.

Students will apply the conversation techniques they have learnt in a simulated context. Attention will be paid to person-centred communication, person-centred care, behavioural change and the application of motivational interviewing techniques.

During the sessions, students will gain insight into their own learning process and the steps they need to take to achieve the learning outcome. This is achieved, amongst other things, through giving and receiving feedback.

Competence Mastery Level 1 (CBN, 2022)

At the first level, the context is of medium complexity, with the focus on the methodical application of knowledge and skills in accordance with guidelines and protocols in varying but similar situations. The nature of the task is structured, involving the application of familiar methods.

The student learns to manage their own learning (self-direction) in terms of planning, motivation and reflection. Reflection is aimed at knowledge and understanding, with a focus on innovation.

The guidance provided here is aimed at increasing self-direction.

Assessment:

In this course, the student’s competences are assessed on the basis of specific learning outcomes, with the indicators serving as a guide and support for the assessment. The assessment consists of a portfolio assessment. Feedback is provided on the individual pieces of evidence for the portfolio. The portfolio assessment is marked using a rubric with a grade and must be passed.

  • TEST 01 – WAG – N1 – Prevention and target group analysis

Evidence for the assessment

Individual prevention plan

Individual project

The student carries out a health analysis of a service user and draws up an appropriate prevention plan.

Prevention target group

Individual assignment

The student draws up an environmental analysis or neighbourhood analysis for a specific target group based on theory and appropriate models. For one identified health risk from this environmental analysis, the student analyses the extent to which the provision of preventive care at the work-based learning placement aligns with national developments and recent insights.

Motivational Interviewing

Individual assignment

A recording of a simulated conversation conducted by the student with an actor, based on a case study provided. In this conversation, the student demonstrates the methodology of the basic principles of motivational interviewing and thereby applies a preventive intervention.

Short practical evaluations

Individual assignment

Short practical evaluations by those involved regarding performance in relation to the learning outcomes associated with the module, which are independent of the specific learning pathway.
