Learning outcomes
1. Clinical reasoning and arguing – Level 1
LOL 1.1 – BVZ – N1 – Authentic (VLPs)
The student justifies and provides care, partly under supervision, in moderately complex authentic care situations, in accordance with the prevailing nursing philosophy and based on clinical reasoning within the nursing process. This is carried out in accordance with the methods, guidelines, (legal) frameworks and evidence-based practice provided, whilst encouraging the care recipient’s self-management in a manner appropriate to the situation.
LOL 1.2 - BVZ - N1 - Authentic (VLP’s & DT)
The student uses, partly under supervision, the communication tools provided to communicate in a person-centred and professional manner with the care recipient, their relatives and other healthcare professionals within a moderately complex authentic situation, in order to encourage self-management.
Indicators
Description
1.1 Establishes the nursing process based on provided theories and classifications relating to clinical reasoning, and makes decisions based on the steps of EBP and relevant legislation and regulations (BN2030).
1.2 Works in accordance with standards, guidelines and protocols (BN2030).
1.3 Supports care recipients in vulnerable situations in promoting self-management, drawing on provided models, theories and tools (BN2030).
1.4 Provides care based on a provided nursing philosophy (BN2030).
1.5 Applies the models and methodologies provided in communication within the nursing process (BN2030).
1.6 Communicates during conversations at both the content and relationship levels (BN2030).
1.7 Assesses the effects of their own verbal and non-verbal expressions during conversations (BN2030).
Content
In this course, students demonstrate skills in the nursing process within an authentic context, with a view to supporting the self-management of care recipients and their families. The methodologies and classifications learnt are applied in practice. Students learn to gather information systematically and develop the skills to recognise, implement and justify the nursing process.
Within the nursing process in the authentic setting, students apply the communication skills they have learnt, with a focus on person-centred communication, person- and family-centred care, and the use of ICT. In this course, evidence-based practice (EBP) plays a key role in justifying an intervention and applying it in practice.
Feedback forms part of the learning process and, as content for the portfolio to be submitted, also provides input for the assessment process. During the course, an (oral) evaluation takes place regarding personal goals and progress.
During the sessions, students gain insight into their own learning process and the steps they need to take to achieve the learning outcomes.
Competence Proficiency Level 1 (CBN, 2022)
At the first level, the context is of medium complexity, with the focus on the methodical application of knowledge and skills in accordance with guidelines and protocols in varying but similar situations. The nature of the task is structured, involving the application of familiar methods.
The student learns to manage their own learning (self-direction) in terms of planning, motivation and reflection. Reflection is aimed at knowledge and understanding, with a focus on innovation.
The guidance provided here is aimed at increasing self-direction.
Assessment
In this course, the student’s competences are assessed on the basis of specific learning outcomes, with the indicators serving as a guide and support for the assessment. The assessment consists of a portfolio assessment. Feedback is provided on the individual pieces of evidence for the portfolio. The portfolio assessment is marked using a rubric with a grade and must be passed.
- TEST 01 – BVZ – VLP1 – Nursing process and communication
Evidence for the assessment
Presentation of the care file review
Individual assignment
The student demonstrates in practice their ability to review an existing care file of a patient with moderately complex issues using the theory learnt, presents this and evaluates their own development in this regard.
EBP intervention factsheet
Individual assignment
Following the analysis of the care record, the student will make a recommendation for a single intervention based on the three pillars of EBP: best scientific evidence, clinical expertise, and the wishes and needs of the care recipient (and their next of kin). This recommendation is to be submitted in the form of a factsheet.
Practical Observation
Individual assignment
During the placement period, the student allows themselves to be observed by the work supervisor. During this observation, the student deliberately demonstrates their actions within the nursing process to the work supervisor. The student then collects feedback and prepares a self-evaluation.
Short practical evaluations
Individual assignment
Short practical evaluations by relevant parties regarding performance in relation to the learning outcomes associated with the module, which are independent of the specific learning pathway.
