Content

In skills lab education, the emphasis is on learning and mastering various nursing skills from a holistic and person-centred perspective, underpinned by theoretical principles. Students work in accordance with protocols, guidelines and quality standards, and develop the ability to deviate from these, where necessary, in a conscious and reasoned manner, based on the context and the wishes of the care recipient.

This course covers the safe and careful performance of high-risk and restricted procedures. Through e-learning modules, instructional lessons and scenario-based training, students work specifically on their own development. Students receive feedback on their attitude, communication and technical procedures as part of their training in a simulated setting or during workplace learning.

Topics that may be covered:

  • Wound care
  • Restricted procedures
  • High-risk procedures

Competence Mastery Level 1 (CBN, 2022)

At the first level, the context is of medium complexity, with the focus on the methodical application of knowledge and skills in accordance with guidelines and protocols in varying but similar situations. The nature of the task is structured, involving the application of familiar methods.

Students learn to manage their own learning (self-direction) in terms of planning, motivation and reflection. Reflection is aimed at knowledge and understanding, with a focus on innovation.

The guidance provided is aimed at fostering increasing self-direction.

Assessment:

At the end of the course, there is a skills assessment in which knowledge, attitude and competence are demonstrated. The assessment is marked with a grade and must be a pass (5.5 or higher).
