Learning outcomes
2. Working on Health – Level 1
LOL 2.1 – WAG – N1 – Simulated (VT & VT MBO bridging programme)
The student, partly under supervision, carries out a behavioural analysis in a moderately complex simulated situation based on clinical reasoning and provided models of prevention, and designs and applies preventive interventions to promote healthy behaviour in the individual care recipient.
LOL 2.2 – WAG – N1 – Simulated (VT & VT MBO transition programme)
The student, partly under supervision, carries out environmental analyses in a moderately complex simulated context for a specific target group, and designs and implements preventive interventions. In doing so, the student plays a supporting role within the interprofessional collaboration in order to promote a healthy living environment.
Indicators
Description
2.1 Uses motivational interviewing techniques to respond to the wishes and needs of the individual care recipient (BN2030).
2.2 Analyses, during a conversation, the intended and unintended outcomes and consequences of their own communication when using motivational interviewing techniques (BN2030).
2.3 Carries out a health analysis in a methodical manner, tailored to a moderately complex context (BN2030).
2.4 Supports the individual care recipient in the design and implementation of preventive interventions (BN2030).
2.5 Carries out an environmental analysis at target group level using a provided model and draws up a prevention plan (BN2030).
2.6 Identifies and monitors health risks within a specific target group (BN2030).
2.7 Assumes a supporting role in promoting a healthy living environment within an interdisciplinary team (BN2030).
Content
This course reinforces the nursing role in prevention and health promotion. The focus is on positive health, early detection, self-management, the use of interprofessional interventions and eHealth in healthcare. Students will learn, through various methods, how health can be promoted in a systematic way and how to carry out a neighbourhood and target group analysis. Students will learn how to analyse risky behaviour and self-management in a care recipient and their loved ones (case studies) and how these can be influenced. Working with a learning team, this will be incorporated, substantiated and justified in a health promotion plan.
Students will apply the conversation techniques they have learnt in a simulated context. Attention will be paid to person-centred communication, person-centred care, behavioural change and the application of motivational interviewing techniques.
During the sessions, students will gain insight into their own learning process and the steps they need to take to achieve the learning outcome. This is achieved, amongst other things, through giving and receiving feedback.
Competence Proficiency Level 1 (CBN, 2022)
At the first level, the context is of medium complexity, with the focus on the methodical application of knowledge and skills in accordance with guidelines and protocols in varying but similar situations. The nature of the task is structured, involving the application of familiar methods.
The student learns to manage their own learning (self-direction) in terms of planning, motivation and reflection. Reflection is aimed at knowledge and understanding, with a focus on innovation.
The guidance provided here is aimed at increasing self-direction.
Assessment:
In this course, the student’s competences are assessed on the basis of specific learning outcomes. For each learning outcome, indicators are provided against which the assessment is made.
Assessment consists of a portfolio assessment and an assignment. Feedback is provided on the individual pieces of evidence for the portfolio or the assignment. The portfolio assessment and the assignment are assessed using a rubric with a mark and must be passed. The final mark for this course is the average of these two assessments, with the portfolio accounting for two-thirds (2/3) and the assignment for one-third (1/3).

Evidence for the assessment
Health promotion plan for the care recipient
Group project
Students work with their learning team to explain how the health of an individual care recipient can be promoted. Based on an analysis, the students formulate goals and interprofessional (eHealth) interventions aimed at improving a healthy lifestyle suited to the care recipient and their loved ones. The level of self-management of the care recipient and their loved ones is assessed and reinforced through interventions.
Professional (care) consultation
Individual assignment
A simulated consultation with a care recipient (simulant) on the topic of a healthy lifestyle, in which basic communication skills and the principles of motivational interviewing are applied. The student justifies the communication skills used, drawing on theories of conversational techniques and levels of communication, either orally or in writing.
Neighbourhood and target group analysis
Group project
The learning team carries out a neighbourhood analysis focusing on health issues affecting that neighbourhood and develops a target group analysis on one specific health issue within that neighbourhood, using this as a basis to devise appropriate preventive group interventions. The student applies relevant theories and models in this process.
