4.6 Students conduct research in a structured manner on issues that are connected to their professional practice.
Content
The aim of the Practice-based Research (PBR) course is to foster your curiosity and inquisitive attitude, and to learn basic research skills that help you to develop your professional practice. When working towards your goals several questions may emerge. These might be artistic questions, entrepreneurial questions or questions related to psychological or social issues. The PBR course helps to explore such questions in a systematic way, and to reflect on the relevance of various sources for practice and research.
Therefore, the aims of the PBR course are:
- To develop an appropriate method of following developments in the professional field and society in a structured way
- To develop a reflective attitude and research skills as tools for the development of practice
- To develop (your) professional practice using a research-informed approach
To do this, you learn:
- How to form useful research questions
- How to conduct a literature search that informs your research project
- How to conduct your research in a systematic way using an appropriate methodology
- How to analyse the information that you find in your research
- How to share your research findings with others in writing and speaking.
During semester 1, you develop several research skills, for instance: How to look for reliable sources, how to compile an annotated bibliography, how to construct a research design, how to communicate plans visually and how to write a Research Proposal.
