Scientific Thinking

Learning Outcome (final level):
The Physician Assistant analyzes complex issues, critically assesses existing evidence, and conducts scientific research to implement substantiated improvements in healthcare.

The student Physician Assistant applies the principles of EBP (Evidence-Based Practice) when assessing scientific literature to translate a professional practice issue into a relevant research question with an appropriate methodology

Content

In this course, common endocrinological and hematological patient problems are central. These patient problems serve as the starting point for learning medical diagnostic skills and the (pharmaco)therapeutic process. Through lectures, practical sessions, and working groups, students learn to reason and act clinically, with attention to both curative and preventive aspects. This includes being able to logically compose and implement a (pharmacotherapeutic) treatment plan.
The actions of the Physician Assistant (PA) are preferably evidence-based, meaning they are partly grounded in data from scientific research. Therefore, it is important that students are able to assess the quality, outcome, and relevance of research results and conclusions. To this end, the key methodological and statistical aspects are covered.
