The course Business Ethics will provide an overview of different possible moral positions in organizations, and their theoretical rooting based on various ethical or moral theories. We will also explore where different values and ethical positions might come from, and how they can be compared. This course will discuss these different moral theories with an active exercise to explore one’s own ethical position, and to understand the theoretical and philosophical basis of one’s own moral position. Subsequently during the course one’s scope widens to include and understand other possible moral positions that colleagues or friends might have and to appreciate the differences. The course will also deal with how organizational members may build moral reasoning and arguments not just based on logic, but also on ethical values that people hold. Recognizing these different values and learning how to cope with these different moral reasoning is central to this course. Ample attention will be given to the practical application of moral analysis to real life business cases, and students will have to apply the ethical analysis to a business case themselves.
