Inhoud

You will learn to give deeper meaning to your work and to connect with others.
The course focuses on developing a wide range of professional knowledge and proficiency (the technical skills) and on applying these in different musical contexts. At the same time, it focuses on the shaping of musical expression (the creative skills) based on your own artistic vision and aims. These are the essential skills for the development of every musician’s professional practice. The teachers also supervise the development of your ability to reflect on your attitude and working methods as a musician.

NJY-students will spend the semester living in New York City. There you will take part in the city’s Jazz scene, a scene that has produced many of the world’s greatest artists and that influences the direction of Jazz worldwide. You will use the External Lesson budget how you see fit to take lessons from New York-based musicians and teachers of your choosing. You will be able to hear and see many contemporary musicians performing in venues of what has been the world centre of Jazz for the past hundred years. The Performance course for this semester will be completed by way of a self-assessment of your progress during this exciting time. There is the possibility to fill in the semester otherwise.
For Classical Music, you continue to work in the module “Musical Language and Its Development”. Topics are style-consciousness, historical context, and using the appropriate performance practice.
In NAIP, the role of the students changes more towards a leading and organizing role within the different modules. In the 3rd semesters the students are expected to take a direct role in organising various public performance opportunities for the Module “Creative Ensemble”.

There are several Electives you can choose from, based on your needs and study plan.
